Library Things

This is a pretty neat website and I enjoyed making the widget; however, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to add the widget to my blog :0(

So click this for the link to my bookshelf.

Podcasts and Video

I love this video, it's hilarious! The Impotence of Proofreading:

Social Networking

Since I was lucky enough to be in college and grad school during the beginning hype of Facebook I'm quite familiar with the site and unfortunately a bit of an addict. However, I'm trying to ween myself off a bit. I've also tried Myspace and found Facebook to be more user friendly, so haven't given much attention to the Myspace account. To try something new for this task, I decided to join bakespace.com - what a fun site! The emphasis is on baking and cooking, sharing recipes, and food mentors! I haven't had too much time to really engage in it yet, but I can see this as being a great place to learn new things in the future.

As for chatting softwares, I've been an avid user of AOL Instant Messenger since I was in highschool (way back when...ha!). Since moving away from my friends and family in Ohio, it has been a great way to keep in contact with loved ones on a daily basis.

I don't have too much interest in Twitter, because I already feel bogged down with all types of social networking devices and I know that I easily become obsessive in checking for updates - I think refraining from Twitter is a good personal choice ;0) Although, I have snooped around the site a bit and checked out people's Twitters.

RSS Feeds

I found the RSS Feeds to be pretty simple to add. It's a neat resource - very easy to figure out; what's going to take some time is finding the right RSS Feeds. I added CNN to my Outlook and have done some searching for library related feeds - I attempted to subscribe to one through DPL, but they were having web difficulties so I wasn't able to add it to my Outlook. I'll try again in the near future.

The Wonderful World of Wikis

Finally there was a lull in the Reserves coming in and I spent some time working on my Wiki. It was fairly easy to use, although I did have to cheat a few times, by looking at Marical's Wiki and checking out the formatting she used. Better get back to work!

Holy Moly - That was Fun!!

So I have already used Flicker, but then I saw the other additional option to use Picnik - which I had never heard of before. This was such a fun site to use!! You can do all sorts of editing to pictures and the feature that I started playing with was the scrapbooking tool - where I could include a bunch of pictures in one project then manipulate them. I chose four pictures of things I love - Santorini (courtesy of http://www.Santorini.net), and the following artists: Krista Huot, Dale Chihuly (picture I took at Franklin Park Conservatory, Cols., Ohio), and Kurt Halsey.

So much fun, but I better get back to my regularly scheduled programming....Reserves/ILL processing!

(warning, it's addictive!)

Avatar Creation

I had a fun time creating my avatar. I had never made one before and so I used Google to search for some free sites. There were a LOT to choose from. I ended up at the South Park website and found a very neat avatar gadget. I used Microsoft Office Picture Manager to crop my avatar picture.

B!og Fun

Setting up the blog, initially, is pretty easy. I don't have much time right now to play with the layout and change things around; I will need to spend some more time next week, figuring out how to add pictures, etc. I'm excited about the AurThings program - I think that I'm going to learn a lot and have a bunch of fun while participating! Hopefully I will have enough time to devote to this program with the craziness that is on its way for the Fall Semester!
